Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson have done some mainstream projects lately, most recently directing episodes of Marvel’s Moon Knight and the upcoming second season of Loki. The two also have a new indie movie coming out called Something in the Dirt, where they co-direct and co-star, with Benson writing the script. Based on the trailer it looks kind of bonkers, but also… good?

Here’s the movie’s official synopsis:

When neighbors John and Levi (Benson and Moorhead) witness supernatural events in their Los Angeles apartment building, they realize documenting the paranormal could inject some fame and fortune into their wasted lives. An ever-deeper, darker rabbit hole, their friendship frays as they uncover the dangers of the phenomena, the city and each other.

Based on the trailer, it looks like the neighbors don’t find fame and glory. They do, however, get their couch to float (as well as a weird skull and various other artifacts) and seem to unlock a dimensional portal to somewhere that doesn’t look at all like Los Angeles. The critics’ reactions touted in the trailer call the movie “a darkly funny sci-fi gem” and as “fascinating to watch as it is hilariously bonkers.” Call me interested!

Something in the Dirt premieres in theaters on November 4th and on demand everywhere on November 22nd.
